Real Weddings: Michelle Zippelli & Daniel Dietz

The Proposal. After nearly a decade of living in Boston together, Michelle and Dan moved to Houston for Dan’s job. During their first trip back to Boston, Daniel finally proposed to Michelle. Or, at least, he tried to propose! He got down on one knee, but the moment was so monumental that he couldn’t find the words to say. Michelle told him he would have to ask the question or she couldn’t answer. They still can laugh about it today.
The Venue. Michelle always wanted to get married in Maryland since it was where she grew up. Because most of their guests were traveling, they picked a destination with plenty to do that would make for a nice vacation for their friends and family. Harbourtowne also was able to accommodate all of their guests. They loved having everyone on the property for wedding festivities. Plus, being on the water was a definite perk!
The Dress. Michelle was looking for something simple. But then she saw a gown on the rack with the most beautiful beading and immediately fell in love. The dress is an Allure Bridals gown that stole her heart away from the simple ones she thought would get her to ultimately say yes to the dress.
The First Look. Michelle recalls the first look feeling a little awkward. Everyone was looking down from the balconies as they met up to see each other for the first time. That didn’t completely take away from the romantic moment, however, and Dan couldn’t stop crying when he first saw Michelle.
The Ceremony. The couple kept it light and fun during their ceremony. Their friend officiated and took a nod from Dr. Seuss. She read Oh, The Places You’ll Go, substituting some of the words from the poem with details personal to Michelle and Dan. Everyone loved how unique and creative the ceremony turned out to be.
The Decor. Michelle was going for a “glam vibe.” Most of the decorations were gold and the flowers were designed by Intrigue Designs. Every table had a photo of the couple from a place they had traveled, or, they places they have gone. It was important to them that they have each element of the wedding reflect their personalities.
The Food. After the wedding, they were surprised to hear that everyone’s favorite part of the wedding was the mashed potato bar! They also skipped a traditional wedding cake and opted for strawberry shortcake instead. The groom’s cake was a carrot cake, which was also well received by guests.
The Highlight. The best part of the day for Michelle and Dan came when they were dancing with their friends and family during the reception. Michelle recalls that there were a lot of nerves throughout the entire day, but when they hit the dance floor with their guests, everything melted away and they were finally more relaxed.
The Honeymoon. For their honeymoon, they added Turkey and Greece to their list of adventures. They visited Istanbul, Santorini, Milos, and Athens. Weather rerouted them at the end of the honeymoon, but they decided they will be making up for it with a trip for their one year anniversary.
