RiverArts invites artists to submit work for the June 2018 exhibit, “Art and Process:” Juried Fine Art and Contemporary Craft. “ The curator challenges you, the artist, to think about questions that might arise from this approach, about the stages of the evolution of your own work, what inspires you, what materials delight you? Are you open to incorporating new research and practices into your studio practice?
Artists may submit up to 3 works of art, whether painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, and fine craft (including metal, wood, fiber, ceramics, glass, and jewelry).
If your work is selected, you will be asked to submit 3-5 images, (maximum size 4 MB), that depict your working process, such as studio shots, visual or reference research materials, or any images that best represent how you approach you work. These images will be assembled into a slide show and displayed on a video loop in the gallery during the opening and afterwards on the RiverArts website.
Best in Show will be awarded $500.The Hebe award, an additional, one-time prize in the amount of $500 will be given to the artist who most effectively and creatively utilizes the idea of “process.” Creativity comes not only from imagination and invention, but ultimately depends on a sequence of decisions and effective problem solving. In offering this additional award, the jurors hope to extend an invitation and a challenge to encourage both the local arts community as well as established artists outside Chestertown to participate. Hebe graces the fountain in the town square and pours forth her life-giving water for all to partake. We hope the Hebe Award will encourage a “pouring forth” of creativity in the RiverArts community. Other monetary awards include Excellence in 2D, 3D, and the Open Category as well as the People’s Choice Award.
